When I sold my GTA back in 2018, I made sure to keep a record of the VIN number, so I could find where it ended up. A little backstory- I bought it extremely cheap ($2500) and sold it very cheap ($3500) to Carmax, for the simple reason that no one else would buy it and I needed it gone because I couldn’t afford 2 cars at the time. It was mechanically pretty good; the paint wasn’t great and the wing and rear b umper was cracked and peeling.
Well I finally got around to looking up the VIN, and look at it! It’s beautiful! And it last sold for almost 8 grand! Sure, I could be mad that I pulled the trigger too soon and sold it cheap, but I’m honestly so happy that it found its way to good hands that fixed the things I always meant to but never had the time or money to do. I wasn’t even sure these pictures were mine at first until I saw the slight panel damage under the front quarter panel. It looks like it’s even still got the good tires I bought for it but didn’t put many miles on.
The wing and bumper got replaced, and the paint received some love. I can’t believe how nice it looks.
The popups are still going strong! I replaced the bushings in both headlights when I had it. (The y disintegrate over time, that’s what typically causes popups to fail.) Also note the holes o n the side of the bumper, Ohio requires a front plate and I thought it lo oked better offset like that.
This is it when it was my GTA. It looks like they also removed the pinstripe and fixed the surface rust on the driver’s door and the chipped paint on the mirror . I do miss it, but I don’t regret selling it. In my mind it’ll probably forever be the best looking and coolest-feeling car I’ll own. Definitely not the fastest, best handling, or most practical though.
I’m mostly just happy that it didn’t end up back in the trailer park I bought it from.

That’s definitely what it did best! T-tops off in the summer just cruising around town; probably the coolest car a 22 year old could’ve had

Sweet! I’m scared to look up some of my old cars. I fear my red 300ZX got riced, and the Z31 I had would be lucky to survive this long.

Haha, I can imagine! I bought my Vette when I was 25, it still gives me the jitters
T-tops reminds me that I should focus on obtaining a convertible vehicle ...

I’d love another t-top car some day. It’s the best of a hardtop and a convertible, so long as you can deal with a few leaks...

I’ve had an 86 300ZX, 87 IROC, 92 Thunderbird SC, 00' Subaru Imp reza 2.5 RS, 86 BMW M535i, 85 535i , 87 325es, 92 325i , 00 323i Touring, 86 Chevy C-10, 83 Dodge Rampage, 92 Eagle Talon, 05 Saab 9-5 Aero, 79 Datsun B 210 3 door , 06 Saturn Vue Red Li ne and there could be a case for my 79 Olds Delta 88 Coupe, 03 Astro, 79 Accord 3 door and 92 Accord if they were still owned by me. This list doesn’t even cover the non desirable models of various cars I’ve had ! The only money I’ve ever made on a car is because work on them, best I do in ownership is break even ...yet I still love them! The experience of all of them has been fun.

Yeah, at least the next people who bought it from me fixed her up and autocrossed her for a few
years, so she went out with a bang! :)
